FATA University

FATA University was established to fulfill the long-standing demand for higher education in the erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). The initiative began in 2009 under Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani but was delayed until President Asif Ali Zardari approved it in 2013. The project was included in Pakistan's Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) in 2015-16 with a budget of Rs. 4.7 billion. Prof. Dr. Mohammad Tahir Shah was appointed as the first Vice Chancellor in 2016. The university initially launched BS programs in 2016 and expanded its offerings in 2017. Land acquisition and infrastructure development have been ongoing, with major construction projects planned in seven phases, including academic blocks, hostels, faculty housing, and research facilities. The university aims to become a full-fledged institution in the coming years.
